Sheppard FRERE 1712-1780

Biographical Note

Son of Edward Frere, of Thwaite Hall, Suffolk. Matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge 1732, but did not graduate; he was admitted at Lincoln's Inn, 1734. He bought an estate at Roydon Hall, Norfolk.

Books

While a fellow-commoner at Trinity College, Frere had a book label made; he later used two different engraved armorial bookplates, made some years apart (Franks 11400, 11401, 11405). The extent of his library is not known; it would have been inherited, as part of the residue of his estate, by his son John (also a bookplate user).
