Biographical Note
Cheyne was master of the boarding school at Vauxhall, vicar of Wotton 1683-1695, rector of Pertenhall 1694-1710, and of Lilly 1709 until his death.
Books
Cheyne's library was sold by retail sale in London from 1 November 1722, alongside those of an unnamed barrister. Advertisements in the Daily Journal and other newspapers describe the sale as 'Consisting of a Collection of very curious and uncommon Books, relating to the History and Parliamentary Proceedings of Great Britain and Ireland. Also a curious collection of ancient Editions of the Classicks, several being before 1500. Likewise Books of Medals, Architecture, Husbandry, Trade, Law, Common Statute and Civil, Voyages, Divinity, Novels, Poetry, Physick, Lives, &c in Greek, Latin, English, Italian and French'.
