Thomas MANGEY 1683/4-1755

Biographical Note

Born in Leeds, son of Arthur Mangey, goldsmith. BA St John's College, Cambridge 1708, MA 1711, fellow 1715, LL.D 1719, DD 1725. Rector of Stanfield, Norfolk 1711, of St Nicholas, Guildford 1717; he held various other ecclesiastical livings, and was a prebendary of Durham from 1721. He was an active philological scholar, publishing an edition of the works of Philo Judaeus in 1742, as well as various doctrinal works and sermons.

Books

Mangey used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 19595). The extent of his library is not known, but various parts of his manuscript collections, including material gathered for his editorial work, survive in the British Library.
