Thomas CAVE, 5th baronet 1712-1778

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Thomas Cave, 3rd baronet, of Stanford Hall, Leicestershire; he inherited the title and family estates from his elder brother Verney, the 4th baronet, in 1734. He matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford, where he did not graduate (though he was awarded a DCL degree in 1756); he was admitted at the Inner Temple, 1725 (barrister, 1735). MP for Leicestershire, 1741-47, and 1762-74.

Books

Cave used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 5422). The extent of his library is not known; his lengthy will ends by leaving any remainder of his estate, including books, manuscripts, jewels or plate, to his eldest son Thomas, who succeeded him as 6th baronet.
