Maurice or Morris EMMET d.ca.1719
Biographical Note
Architect. Son of Maurice Emmet of Westminster, Master Bricklayer of the Office of Works. Matriculated Merton College, Oxford 1691, admitted to the Inner Temple 1691. Elected to the Royal Society 1698.
Books
While Emmet's will doesn't mention any books, all of his possessions were bequeathed to his sister, Elizabeth, 'for her own sole and separate use without coming to the hands of her husband'. Emmet's books were sold by auction in London on 11 January 1719/20. The library is described by the catalogue as 'a very curious collection of books of history, antiquities, medals, sculptures, mathematicks, natural philosophy, physics, surgery and the classics'.
