Long's library was sold at auction in London by Thomas Ballard, beginning 12 January 1718/19. His books were sold alongside those of an unnamed deceased bishop, and the catalogue makes no attempt to distinguish between the two libraries. It lists over 1300 lots, and divides them under the headings Greek, Latin, French &c folio (72), Latin quarto (69), Latin and other languages in octavo and duodecimo (256), English folio (204), quarto (103), octavo (474), twelves (129), and manuscripts (9). The catalogue describes the sale as containing 'A good collection of valuable authors in divers faculties in Greek, Latin, Italian, French and English, printed by many eminent printers, most handsomely bound, Gilt and letter'd: with several choice and valuable MSS: As also several bundles of pamphlets'.
