BA Trinity College, Cambridge 1594/5, MA 1598. At his death he was chaplain to the college.

Ball's probate inventory includes 100 books, valued at £3 5s 5d (from a total estate valued at £23 14s 9d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some English, Greek and French. They cover a wide array of subjects, including geography, grammar, rhetoric, mathematics and theology. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.178 (see full citation below).
