John SHAXTON d.1600/1

Biographical Note

BA Trinity College, Cambridge 1587/8, fellow 1589, MA and deputy proctor 1591, and BD 1598. In the last year of his life he was rector of Hemingford Abbots, Cambridgeshire.

Books

Shaxton's probate inventory includes over 90 books, valued at £6 0s 10d (from a total estate valued at £34 8s 9.1/2d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some English, Hebrew, Greek, French and Italian. The books are predominantly theological, with some grammar, lexicography, law and other subjects. He bequeathed a number of specific titles to individuals at Trinity, as well as his brother, cousin, and other acquaintances.
