John COWELL d.1562

Biographical Note

BA from Cambridge 1553, MA 1556, fellow of Gonville and Caius College (and possibly later Clare College) from 1557. At the time of his death he was rector of North Creake, Norfolk.

Books

Cowell's probate inventory includes ca.100 books, valued at £4 16s 3d (from a total estate valued at £16 12s 6d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some English, with a predominance of classics and medicine. He bequeathed a copy of Cicero to Gonville and Caius, and had himself inherited books from Edward Raven and Laurence Maptyt.
