Thomas MERELL d.1559

Biographical Note

Of Rutland. BD and fellow of St John's College, Cambridge 1555. He was vicar of Barford, Bedfordshire and possibly also held other ecclesiastical livings.

Books

Merell's probate inventory includes ca.50 books, valued at £3 13s 8d (from a total estate valued at £11 6s 5d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some English, with a predominance of theology alongside some medicine, classics, and other topics. He bequeathed his "gret bible" and other books to the church of Barford, and made specific bequests of books to St John's College, Eton College, and his native parish of Braunston. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.100 (see full citation below).
