Christopher HEWETSON 1686-1744
Biographical Note
Son of Christopher Hewetson of Thomastown, Kilkenny, a member of a long-established gentry family there which had prospered during the 17th century. He was involved in local administration, as a JP and a lieutenant in the Kilkenny Militia.
Books
Hewetson (or possibly his father?) used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 14626). The extent and disposition of his library is not known; his eldest son was Amyas Hewetson (1708-71) and one of his younger sons Christopher achieved fame as a sculptor.
