Roger SORESBY d.1546

Biographical Note

BA Peterhouse, Cambridge 1538, fellow 1540, MA 1541.

Books

Soresby's probate inventory includes 192 titles, in ca.215 volumes, valued at £4 19s 1d (from a total estate valued at ca.£13 6s). The books are mostly in Latin with a little Greek, Hebrew and other languages, covering theology, classics, and other topics relevant to university study (he seems to have had multiple copies of some texts, for student use). Apart from a New Testament with clasps, left to Robert Rawlye, he bequeathed his books to his brother Harry. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.26 (see full citation below).
