John BIRNIE of Broomhill, b.1674
Biographical Note
John Birnie was the son of John Birnie of Broomhill (1643-1716), the minister of Caerlaverock from 1671 to 1688. He was born in Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, in 1674 and married Elizabeth Frogg (d. 1716), daughter of Alexander Frogg, merchant in Edinburgh.
He wrote an account of the family of Birnie and Hamiltons of Broomhill, from the papers held in the Charter Chest at Broomhill, 1473-1729.
A surviving portrait shows him in 1711.

The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
