Edward HASTED 1702-1740

Biographical Note

Son of Joseph Hasted, painter-stainer to the Royal Navy, who accumulated sufficient wealth for his son to live as a country gentleman at Hawley, Kent. He was a member of Lincoln's Inn, but did not practice law; he served as Clerk to the Wax Chandlers Company. His son of the same name (1732-1812) is well known as a Kentish antiquary.

Books

Hasted used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 14048); the extent of his library is not known, but it would presumably have been inherited by his son.
