John LENG 1665-1727
Biographical Note
Born at Thornton-le-Dale, Yorkshire. BA St Catharine's College, Cambridge 1686, fellow 1688, MA 1690, BD 1698, DD 1716. Rector of Beddington, Surrey 1708, Bishop of Norwich 1723; he was also a chaplain to George I. He was respected for his learning and his piety, and published various sermons and classical translations.
Books
Leng's will has no mention of books, which would have been divided between his wife and daughters under the terms of his will. His library was auctioned in London, beginning 18 March 1728; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Journal and Daily Post.
