Thomas FOLEY ca.1670-1737

Biographical Note

Son of Paul Foley of Stoke Edith, Herefordshire, and a member of a family which had made a fortune through ironworks in the 17th century. He was educated at the Inner Temple and Pembroke College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1685, but did not graduate. MP for Weobley 1691, the beginning of a long and active parliamentary career which continued up to his death; he was closely associated with Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford, his relation by marriage.

Books

Foley used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 10843). The extent of his library is not known; his will has no mention of books, which would have passed, with the bulk of his estate, to his eldest son Thomas.
