Sir Nicholas CAREW, 1st baronet 1686-1727
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Francis Carew, of Beddington, Surrey, from whom he inherited the family estates in 1689. Matriculated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge 1703, but did not graduate. MP for Haslemere, or Surrey almost continuously 1708-27, where he proved "far from conspicuous" (History of Parliament, which notes his main lifetime achievement in terms of the redevelopment of the house and gardens at Beddington.
Books
Carew used two engraved armorial bookplates, in different sizes, dated 1707 (Franks *471, 5119/*248); the extent and disposition of his library is not known (the baronetcy was inherited by his son Sir Nicholas Hackett Carew (d.1762)).
