Ursula Fairfax CARTWRIGHT 1647-1702

Ursula Cartwright's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection *304)

Biographical Note

Daughter of Ferdinando Fairfax, 2nd Baron Fairfax; she married William Cartwright (1634-76) of Aynho, Northamptonshire. Few biographical details survive but as she was buried at Aynho she presumably continued to live there during her widowhood; her son Thomas (1671-1748) was MP for Northamptonshire from 1695 until his death.

Books

An anonymous bookplate with the arms of Cartwright impaling Fairfax, on a lozenge, is attributed to her (Franks *304); the extent and disposition of her library is not known.
