Richard SHUTTLEWORTH 1683-1749
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Richard Shuttleworth MP of Gawthorpe Hall and Forcett Hall, Yorkshire and Katherine Clerke. He undertook a Grand Tour of France and Italy in the early 1700s. MP for Lancashire 1705-49, and ‘Father’ of the Commons in his final year. Married Emma Cole.

The nature and the extent of his library have not been established. His will makes no specific reference to books, which would have been inherited by his eldest surviving son, James.
Characteristic Markings
He had an engraved armorial bookplate dated 1707: Franks 26882; *242 (another impression).
