James LIVINGSTONE, 5th Earl of Linlithgow, d.1723
Biographical Note
James Livingstone, 4th Earl of Callendar, succeeded his uncle George Livingstone as 5th Earl of Linlithgow in 1696. In 1713 he was elected a Representative Peer in the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. At the battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715 he fought for the Jacobite army, commanding a squadron of horse, with the rank of brigadier-general. He then fled the country, dying in Rome in 1723.

Franks 18428 (Livingston), The Right Honble. James, Earl of Linlithgow and Earl of Callander. (Livingston quartering Callender; over all an escutcheon for the title of Linlithgow.)
The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
