Margaretta NEWSHAM ca.1682-1750
Biographical Note
Daughter of Charles Newsham of Chadshunt, Warwickshire, a member of a long-established gentry family there. She married General Joseph Sabine (ca.1661-1739), army officer and later an MP and governor of Gibraltar; they had 9 children.
Books
Newsham is one of the minority of women of her time who used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 21762), which must have been made before her marriage in 1710, as her name is shown as Newsham. Her brother John Newsham also used a bookplate, suggesting some kind of family initiative or enthusiasm. The extent and disposition of her library are not known.
