Sir Christopher MUSGRAVE, 5th bart 1688-1736
Biographical Note
Son of Philip Musgrave of Eden Hall, Westmorland, who died soon after his son was born; Christopher inherited the title and family estates from his grandfather Sir Christopher, the 4th baronet, in 1704. Matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford 1706 but did not graduate; he spent much of his early life in London and was made a clerk of the Privy Council in 1712. He was MP for Carlisle 1713-15, and for Cumberland 1722-27, and held various local administrative offices.
Books
Musgrave used an engraved armorial bookplate dated 1732 (Franks 21441). The extent of his library is not known; the estates and title were inherited by his eldest son Philip, who became the 6th baronet.
