William MORETON 1640/1-1715
Biographical Note
Born at Chester, son of Edward Moreton, clergyman. BA Christ Church, Oxford 1664, MA 1667, BD 1674. Rector of Churchill, Worcestershire 1669, and chaplain to Aubrey Vere, Earl of Oxford; he went to Ireland in 1677 and became Dean of Christ Church, Dublin. He was appointed Bishop of Kildare in 1682, and was translated to Meath in 1705. He sought to improve adherence to the Anglican church in Ireland and resisted tolerance of Roman Catholicism.
Books
Moreton used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks *586); the extent and disposition of his library are not known.
