James CUNNINGHAM, 14th Earl of Glencairn, 1749-1791

Biographical Note

Second son of William Cunningham, 13th Earl of Glencairn; succeeded following the death of his older brother. Succeeded by his younger brother John Cunningham, 15th Earl.

Captain of a company of the West Fencible regiment; one of the sixteen Scottish representative peers in the parliament of 1780–1784. Friend and patron of Robert Burns.

Franks 7595 (Cunningham), James Earl of Glencairn. (The plate of William Earl of Glencairne with inscription altered. Succeeded 1775 as 14th Earl; died 1791.)
