Biographical Note

Son of Frederick Cornwall, vicar of Bromfield, Shropshire. He entered the Navy as a lieutenant in 1734 and became a captain in 1744, the year in which he lost an arm at the battle of Toulon; he remained on active service until the early 1760s. He married Mary Herbert and in 1752 he bought Delbury Hall, Diddlebury. He was MP for Montgomery 1771-74, though there is no record of his having spoken or voting in Parliament.
