Thomas BEALE d.1805

Biographical Note

Son of Thomas Beale of Newent, Gloucestershire. Curate of Bengeworth, Worcestershire 1771-1793, and he resided at the Mansion House there. His diaries have been used in studies of historical weather data.

Books

In his will Beale bequeathed items of furniture, alongside "my miniature and large pictures, drawings and prints and all my Books and my looking glass in a tortoise shell frame unto my Nephew the said Thomas Beale Cooper". His library is believed to have been sold to James Wilson, a Birmingham bookseller.

Characteristic Markings

Beale's bookplate, which features a unicorn's head within a floral wreath, is found in Pembroke College 4.24.9, "The Life and raigne of King Edward the Sixt: with the beginning of the rainge of Queene Elizabeth," (1636), and there are extensive annotations on the recto/verso of front flyleaf, presumably in Beale's hand.
