Geoffrey BLYTHE 1496/7-d.1542
Biographical Note
Born at Barnby, Yorkshire, son of Thomas Blythe. Fellow of King's College, Cambridge 1518, BA 1520, MA 1523, DCL 1529. Canon of Lichfield 1520, warden of King's Hall, Cambridge 1528. He held other ecclesiastical livings, and travelled to Louvain in the early 1520s.
Books
Blythe's probate inventory includes 191 titles, in 228 volumes, valued at £15 10s 7d (from a total estate valued at ca.£104). The books are almost entirely Latin, with a few in Greek or English, and include works by Chaucer, Gower and Boccaccio among the predominance of theology with some classics, philosophy, and other subjects. His goods included vestments, armour, and rich apparel. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.11 (see full citation below).
