Owen BUCKINGHAM 1674-1720
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Owen Buckingham, merchant and Lord Mayor of London 1704-5, from whom he inherited significant wealth in 1713. He was MP for Reading 1708-20 and was set to follow a successful career like his father, but these prospects were cut short by his death in a duel in 1720.
Books
Buckingham is likely to have inherited books from his father; like him, he used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 4233). The extent and disposition of the library after 1720 is not known.
