Biographical Note
Son of William Russell, 1st Baron Russell (executed in 1683 for involvement in the Rye House Plot); he inherited the title and estates of the Duke of Bedford from his grandfather, William Russell in 1700. Matriculated at Magdalen College, Oxford in 1696, but did not graduate. He held a number of court and local administrative posts before his early death from smallpox.
Books
Russell used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 25699/*17); the extent and disposition of his library are not known.
