Biographical Note

Son of Sir Francis Carew, of Beddington, Surrey, from whom he inherited the family estates in 1689. Matriculated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge 1703, but did not graduate. MP for Haslemere, or Surrey almost continuously 1708-27, where he proved "far from conspicuous" (History of Parliament, which notes his main lifetime achievement in terms of the redevelopment of the house and gardens at Beddington). He was created a baronet in 1715.

Books

Carew used three engraved armorial bookplates, in different sizes, the earliest ones dated 1707 (Franks *471, 5119/*248; the later one, made in or after 1715, 5120); the extent and disposition of his library is not known (the baronetcy was inherited by his son Sir Nicholas Hackett Carew (d.1762)).
