Robert BRISTOW 1688-1737
Biographical Note
Son of Robert Bristow, of Micheldever, Hampshire, whose own father of the same name had made a fortune in Virginia in the second half of the 17th century. He followed his father as MP for Winchelsea, 1708-37, was a Director of the Bank of England and East India Company, and various other administrative and court offices.
Books
Bristow used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 3759); the extent of his library is not known. His will has no specific mention of books; they would have been inherited, along with all the other residue of his real and personal estate, by his eldest son Robert.
