Sir William PARKHURST d.1667

Biographical Note

Probably the son of James Parkhurst of Lenham, Kent. He accompanied Sir Henry Wotton, as his secretary, on diplomatic missions to Venice and Turin between 1604 and 1612, and subsequently remained in Europe for several years. He became Warden of the Mint in 1625, and was MP for Kent in the same year; he was ejected from his Mint post in 1642 and restored in 1660.

Books

More than 145 books, valuen at £37 7s 4d, were seized from his London house by the London Committee for Sequestration in 1643. An inventory survives in the Committee's records in The National Archives.
