Jasper GUNTER or GOUNTER 1623/4-72

Biographical Note

Son of Richard Gunter of Chichester, gentleman. MA Trinity College, Oxford 1642. Described in his sale catalogue as a medical doctor.

Books

Gunter's will, in which he described himself as a gentleman, of Chichester, has no mention of books; all his goods and estate were left to his sister Katherine Peirce. His library was auctioned in London, 20.3.1684, as part of a joint sale with the books of "a learned lawyer lately deceased". The catalogue does not distinguish which books came from which source, though it can be assumed that the medical books in various languages which constitute the first 401 lots were presumably Gunter's.

Characteristic Markings

None of Gunter's books have been identified.
