Thomas THACKHAM 1619/20-1690

Biographical Note

Son of Thomas Thackham, of Reading, Berkshire. BA Magdalen Hall, Oxford 1639, MA 1642, fellow of Magdalen 1648. Vicar of Sydling St Nicholas, Dorset 1663-65, rector of Nuffield, Oxfordshire, and vicar of Bradwell, 1668.

Books

In his will, Thackham made bequests to his wife Rose, but expressly excluding "my study of books writings and deeds", which became part of the estate passing to his son Thomas. His library was sold by retail sale in London by Daniel Browne, beginning 2 February 1704; no catalogue survives but the newspaper advertisement, from The Daily Courant, referred to "divinity, philology and history ... [and] several of the fathers best edit ... there is likewise selected from the same library several thousand volumes to pick at very low rates".

Characteristic Markings

None of Thackham's books have been identified.
