Sir Harry PopeBLOUNT, 3rd baronet 1702-1757

One of Blount's bookplates (British Museum Franks Collection 2881)

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Thomas Pope Blount, 2nd bart, from whom he inherited the family estates at Tyttenhanger, Herefordshire in 1731. His mother Katherine was noted for her artistic and cultural interests. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford in 1720 but did not graduate; he later completed his education by travelling in Europe. The baronetcy became extinct after his death.

Books

Blount inherited books from his mother (see her BOO entry) but it is thought that he may have sold some of these. He used an engraved armorial bookplate, known in two versions with or without his initials HPB (Franks 2880-1). The extent of his library is not known; his brief will has no mention of books, and he bequeathed all his estate to his wife Anne.
