Henry BRIGGS 1687-1748

Biographical Note

Son of William Briggs of Holt, Norfolk, physician. BA Corpus Christi College, Cambridge 1707, MA 1710, DD 1729. Curate of Staple, Kent 1709, of Loose Maidstone 1712; rector of Holt 1723 and of Letheringsett 1741. He was a chaplain to George II from 1731.

Books

Briggs used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 3717). The extent of his library is not known, but it was probably inherited at least in part by his son William, who had the bookplate altered by substituting his own name and using it himself (Franks 3722).
