Biographical Note
Son of John Gilden, lord of the manor of Burton-by-Lincoln. BA Christ's College, Cambridge 1549, fellow of Jesus College from ca.1550.
Books
Gilden's probate inventory includes ca.40 books, valued at 17s 2d (from a total estate valued at just over £6). The books are mostly in Latin, with a little Hebrew and Greek, and include theology, grammar and medicine. He left his books "unto sir Wyllan to bestow as he shall thynke best". The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.53 (see full citation below).
