Thomas CARTWRIGHT 1671-1748
Biographical Note
Son of William Cartwright of Bloxham, Oxfordshire, from whom he inherited estates in Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire in 1676. Matriculated at St Catherine's College, Cambridge 1687, but did not graduate. MP for Northamptonshire 1695-98, and 1701-48; sheriff of Oxfordshire 1699. His "modest level of parliamentary activity" as a Tory through his long career as an MP (History of Parliament) included the introduction of a number of private bills.
