Edward CORKER ca.1666-1734

Corker's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection 6875)

Biographical Note

Son of Thomas Corker of Dublin, merchant. In 1689 he was an ensign in the Earl of Meath's Regiment of Foot, and pursued a military career for several years thereafter. He was an MP in the Irish Parliament 1713-34, and High Sheriff of County Cork in 1719. He married Margaret Wallis (d.1721) and acquired an estate at Ballymaloe House, Shanagarry.

Books

Corker used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 6875). The extent and disposition of his library is not known; having no children, much of his estate was inherited by members of his family who had settled in Falmouth.
