Biographical Note

Son of Sir Robert Carr, 2nd bart, of Aswarby, Lincolnshire, a member of a long-established family there whose estates were considerably enlarged during the 16th century. Matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge 1654, but did not graduate. Inherited the title and the family estates in 1667. MP for Lincolnshire 1665-81, an active and disputatious parliamentarian, who was extensively involved in committee and court politics; the History of Parliament describes him as "always an intolerant Anglican at heart", noting his debts, drinking, and openness to bribery.

Books

Carr features in the armorials database, but only on the basis of three copies of a 1669 edition of the Book of Common Prayer, presumably made for use in the family chapel. His will has no mention of books, being primarily concerned with the passing on of the family estates.
