James CHAMBERLAINE 1635?-84

Biographical Note

Born at East Shelton, Leicestershire, son of James Chamberlaine, clerk. BA St John's College, Cambridge 1655, fellow 1655, MA 1658, BD 1665. Rector of Friern Barnet, Middlesex 1673.

Books

Chamberlaine's library was auctioned at Stourbridge Fair, 8.9.1686. The sale catalogue contains 1350 lots, divided between Latin theology, history, philology etc (681 lots), and English divinity, history, philology and "humanity" (669). The copy of the catalogue in St John's College Library, Dd.9.15(2) (which belonged to Thomas Baker) is marked up with prices.
