Horatio TOWNSHEND, 1st Viscount Townshend 1630-87
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Roger Townshend, 1st baronet (1595-1637). Matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge in 1644; MA 1645. JP 1652; MP for Norfolk 1656, 1659, 1660. He was created Viscount Townshend in 1682. He married Mary (1634-1673) in 1648; after her death he married Mary (1652/3-1685), daughter of Sir Joseph Ashe, 1st baronet.
Books
Surviving book bills and correspondence testify to the existence of a substantial library at his house at Raynham, Norfolk, developed during his lifetime.
