John SPAVAN 1685-1718
Biographical Note
Born in York, son of Martin Spavan. BA St Edmund Hall, Oxford 1705, MA Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge 1709. Vicar of Great Maplestead, Essex 1713, also reader at St Clement Danes, London. He published English translations of several works, including ones by Hugo Grotius and Samuel Pufendorf.
Books
Spavan's library, together with that of "a person of quality lately deceased", was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 14 January 1720; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in several newspapers.
