Sir James ABERCROMBY or ABERCROMBIE of Birkenbog, 2nd baronet, ca.1670-1734

Biographical Note

He was the second son of Sir Alexander Abercromby, 1st Baronet (ca.1603–1684), and his third wife Elizabeth Baird, daughter of Sir James Baird. He sat in the Parliament of Scotland for Banffshire from 1693 to 1702.

Books

Used engraved bookplates: (Franks 56): 'James Abercromby, Esqr.' (Abercromby arms with crescent for difference of the second son) and Franks 50: '(Abercrombie, Bart.), anonymous' (same arms, probably made after Abercromby succeeded his father in 1684).

For notes on the various Abercromby bookplates, see under George Abercromby d.1699

The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
