John GRAY of Crichie, ca. 1660-1723

John Gray's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection *483)

Biographical Note

He inherited the lordship of Gray from his father-in-law Patrick Gray, 8th Lord Gray (died 1711), who resigned the honours to Queen Anne in 1707 and accepted a new patent for John Gray to succeed him.

Books

Used an engraved bookplate:

Franks *483 Gray, The Right Honble. The Lord. 1708.

Identified by Franks as ‘Patrick 8th Lord Gray died 1711’ but is more probably his son-in-law and heir, John Gray of Crichie who became the 9th Lord Gray in 1707 on the confirmation of a new patent by Queen Anne for Patrick Gray.
