A bookplate of the first half of the 18th century, "Lord Mountgarretts Library" (Franks 4625), must relate to one or more of the Viscounts Mountgarret; a branch of the Butler family held this title in the peerage of Ireland, and 4 Viscounts followed in swift succession between Edmund, 6th Viscount (1663-1735) and Edmund, 9th Viscount (1687-1751). It may have been used by later Viscounts also. The extent of the library is not known.
