William BARROWBY 1682-1758

Biographical Note

Pysician, the son of John Barrowby, physician, and his wife, [[family::Abigail], was baptized at St Lawrence Jewry, London on 15 December 1682. After studying at [[education::Eton College] he entered Trinity College, Oxford, on 6 November 1699 and graduated BA (1703), MA (1706), MB (1709), and MD (1713). Barrowby became a licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians, London, in 1717, and a fellow in 1718. He served as censor at the college in 1721, 1730, and 1734. On 9 November 1721 he was elected a [[occupation::fellow of the Royal Society]. He lived in [[location::London] until 1746, when he apparently retired to the Isle of Wight, where he died on 17 October 1758.
