Sir Philip TYRWHITT, 3rd baronet 1598-1667
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Edward Tyrwhitt, 2nd bart, of Stainfield, Lincolnshire, a member of a long-established gentry family there. Matriculated at Christ's College, Cambridge 1614, but did not graduate; succeeded his father in 1628. He suffered considerable financial penalties as a royalist during the Civil War. His son of the same name (1633-88) was MP for Grimsby in 1667, and held various local administrative offices.
Books
A number of books survive, widely dispersed, with an inscription, and/or an armorial binding stamp; the stamp is attributed in the Armorials Database to the 3rd baronet, but they may also be associated with the 4th. Examples: Thomas Fisher Library, Toronto, STC 191; Princeton University (Ex) 3614.376 11q; State Library of New South Wales, Sydney RB 1529.
