Thomas CAREY 1597-1634

Biographical Note

Second son of Sir Robert Carey, courtier, created 1st Earl of Monmouth in 1626. BA Exeter College, Oxford 1614, after which he travelled abroad. MP for Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire 1621, and for various Cornish constituencies during the 1620s. He seems not to have been active in parliamentary affairs, but was involved in court and diplomatic business, and was designated ambassador to Venice shortly before his death.
