Biographical Note

Of Chilham Castle, Kent, son of Thomas Digges (c.1546-1595) and his wife, Anne or Agnes (d. in or after 1595). BA University College, Oxford 1601. MP for Tewkesbury 1610 and 1614. A diplomat, Digges served as ambassador to Muscovy 1618-19 and as Special Ambassador to Holland in 1620. MP for Kent in 1628 until 1629. He became a bencher of Gray's Inn in 1631, master in chancery from 1631 to 1637, and Master of the Rolls in 1638.
